Urgent action needed to protect nursing home residents – Naughten

Denis Naughten TD has called for clarity on staff available under the Be On Call For Ireland initiative to deal with a crisis situation has arisen in a nursing home in the West of Ireland, which has had just three staff running the facility for the last three days.

“We now see a situation where 90% of both residents and staff are Covid positive in a nursing home in my constituency and I have raised this crisis directly with the HSE and Government both privately and publicly,” stated Denis Naughten.

“Not only do we need staff to address this particular situation, but the reality is that this crisis should never have happened in the first place.

“The nursing home in question should have staff deployed from the Be On Call For Ireland list and the HSE needs to establish an immediate panel that can go into nursing homes where substantial numbers of staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

“The HSE must answer why it has not deployed the Covid response team in this case,” added Denis Naughten.

ENDS.
